I sincerely detest the new logo. It reminds me of something for laundry detergent, like Tide or something. Shouting at you "Buy this product!!" "We're number one!!"
Whereas the old logo makes me think of a candle in the darkness. It seems more fragile yet hopeful. Given the history of the chalice, think this makes more sense too.
It's interesting because I consider myself evangelical and am always telling UUs we should be more public about our faith, but I immensely prefer the old logo over the new.
Preach it, sister! I too have strong dislike for the current chalice. The current chalice seems more like a corporate logo than a religious symbol. With the older chalice, I truly love it as a Universalist because it is first of all the off-centered cross. The circle representing infinity, God. The cross representing our Christian tradition is set to the side leaving room for other paths towards God and truth but best of all it also represents the "final harmony of All Souls with God" Finally it acknowledged both Universalism and Unitarianism. The modern chalice seems to be a Unitarian only symbol.
I like the old one but I really don't have a reason. Maybe because it's simpler.
