UU Evangelism

Marketing our Faith??

A friend pointed out this bit from the St. Petersburg Sinkford interview, which I had originally missed:

Maxwell: Throughout its existence, the UUA has shied away
from proselytizing. What made the church change its mind and
proselytize at this time? Or do you call it proselytizing?

Sinkford: No, we don't call it proselytizing. We call it marketing.

Find Us and Ye Shall Seek

Those of you who are paying attention may have noticed that the UUA took out an ad in Time magazine that coincided with Association Sunday. Both are part of a broad plan for growing our denomination.

This arrived in my email box today:

The Unitarian Universalist Association's national marketing campaign continues in this week's TIME Magazine and online at Time.com.

Moral Values in a Pluralistic Society

So what is your congregation doing to address this question?

Issue: How might the moral and ethical grounding of Unitarian Universalism be given greater voice in the public square?

General Assembly 2006, St Louis MO

I'm still processing GA, but thought I'd share a little bit.

First, as I said in another post, this was only my second GA. Last year was my first, and last year our church was selected as one of the "breakthrough" congregations, and our senior minister was chosen to give the sermon for Sunday worship. So there was a lot of added interest and everything was novel and shiny last year. So it did feel like a little bit of a letdown this year, but I'm willing to believe that's a subjective, relative thing.

Growing Our Congregations

Namaste Yall! I attended a "church leadership workshop" or something like that today. Ruel was there too. And we learned some interesting statistics that I thought I'd pass on to you. Just FYI. Smile

"Out of the Closet" Unitarian Universalists

I first met Kat Liu at the General Assembly in 2005, but we had been communicating through the internet longer than that. For awhile, I have known that both she and I had something in common... besides being UU's. Smile Theologically we are similar, but we dont claim similar labels or anything. Our theological thought is different enough to be interesting. Our views of Unitarian Universalism are different.

It was not until recently that I realized that what I was feeling the most kinship with her on was that we are both “out of the closet” as Unitarian Universalists.
